12 fourth and fifth graders in the Pendleton School District are finalists in the 2017 Sodexo Future Chefs Challenge. The students will compete on March 10 at Sherwood Heights Elementary, using their creativity and culinary skills to make healthy comfort food recipes.
Originally, 15 students competed in the contest, and the 12 best were selected to participate in the district-wide finals event. They will be assessed on criteria including originality, taste, ease of presentation, kid friendliness and use of healthy ingredients. The winner from each participating district will be considered for regional finalist awards, and the selected regional finalists will vie to become one of five national finalists competing for the public’s vote on SodexoUSA.com.
The Sodexo Future Chefs Challenge is a national initiative in its seventh year and was created to get students thinking about making healthy food choices while also encouraging them to be active and creative in the kitchen. The Pendleton School District joins 256 other school districts across the country holding Future Chefs events throughout February and March.
