After compiling the results of the recent Superintendent Survey and holding focus group sessions in January, the Pendleton School Board and the superintendent search company are moving on to the next steps in the process.

Sergio Hernandez and Dr. Bill Jordan are the consultants from Northwest Leadership Associates, the company hired by the school board to assist with the search process. From the input received from the survey and focus groups, Hernandez and Jordan developed the professional qualifications and personal characteristics and qualities that respondents and participants shared. The resulting job brochure has been distributed to a mailing list of about 3500 to generate interest. “In addition to promoting the attributes of the district and community, the job brochure communicates what kind of person the Pendleton community wants their next superintendent to be,” Hernandez said.

On February 14, Hernandez and Jordan will meet with the PSD school board to provide a mid-term search report, including how many candidates have applied so far. They encourage district staff and community members to stay engaged and involved in this important process by attending meetings and asking questions.

Jordan said he hopes people who know potential candidates will ask them to apply for the position. “The job’s open, in a good community and with a good school board, and we want potential applicants to seriously look at this great opportunity in Pendleton.”

School Board Chair Lynn Lieuallen thanked those who completed the survey and attended the focus group sessions for their time, and she reiterated the timeline for the search:

Application Deadline – March 4, 2022

Preliminary Interviews – March 29 – 30, 2022

Interviews of Finalists – April 4 – 6, 2022

Earliest Announcement of Final Selection – April 7, 2022

The new superintendent will officially begin on July 1, 2022.
