Superintendent Message
March 20, 2020 @ 1 pm
Beginning Monday, March 23rd, parents and students should be able to access supplemental resources for our students to remain educationally engaged during the emergency closure of schools. For students in grades K-8, some printed materials are available at the District Office located at 107 NW 10th Street. We will also be checking out Chromebooks at the District Office for those who do not have a computer at home. A user agreement is required to be signed by an adult for Chromebook checkout. Please remember that you will need internet/Wi-Fi service in order to access online resources with the Chromebooks. The District will also continue to serve meals next week and throughout the closure from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the PELC, Washington Elementary and the Recreation Center at CTUIR.
We are still operating with several questions unanswered. For those of you with students who are seniors this year, we have not heard anything regarding waivers, make-up days or graduation requirements from the Oregon Department of Education or the State Board of Education. However, we know there have been conversations by both organizations and I expect we will get some answers within the next few days. Let’s hope so anyway. Until then I cannot answer questions regarding graduation.
Another question yet to be determined is whether the days we are closed will be made up and how many. Again, that will be the decision in part of the State Board of Education with consult from the Oregon Department of Education. So until school districts get direction, those questions cannot be answered.
Finally, the Oregon State Activities Association (OSAA) has suspended all athletic practices and games through April 28th. No decisions have been made whether the spring sports seasons will resume after that date and probably won’t until it is decided if and when school will resume.
I wish I had more answers for you at this time, and will as soon as we receive information from the state agencies with the authority to do so. Thank you for your patience and working with us during these unprecedented times. Please check our website(s) and Facebook page frequently for updates.
